Peter Twill was twenty-four when he buried his best friend.
Then an old man at the funeral put a brass lighter in his hand, and Peter woke up eight years old, on the morning Charli Ashby moved in across the road.
Growing up is hard enough the first time. Peter has to do it twice, and in more ways than one. He is a boy again with a grown man’s memories. He makes the same best friend a second time, carrying the grief of a funeral that hasn’t happened yet, and he loses a family he never lost before. And he has to decide what to believe about a life nobody else remembers, while pieces of it keep coming true.
It is a coming of age story told twice over: schoolyard fights and bullies, summers on the lake, a quiet deputy who becomes a father, and the long, hard work of becoming someone worth being, when you already know how one version of you turned out.
And nothing comes free. Every second chance is paid for, sometimes by the people who love you most. Almost everyone around Peter is keeping a secret, and some of the people watching over him are not what they seem. The closer he and Charli get to twenty-four, the harder the choices become, and the more they will have to sacrifice for each other.
Aftwend is the first book of a seven-book science fiction saga with coming of age at its heart: the challenges of growing up, and of growing up again, friendships that will be tested across time, enemies still to be made, and alliances no one could have imagined. It begins with two boys and the hardest question a friendship can ask. Who gets to choose for someone else?

About the Author
Daniel Bissey was raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado, at the foot of Pikes Peak, where a love of the outdoors comes with the view. Childhood visits to Alaska carried it further, teaching Daniel to chase adventure, to keep a free soul and a wide-open imagination, and to love the natural world and the joy of exploring it.
The same wonder points up at the stars. A lifelong love of technology and science fiction grew into a vision of humanity crossing the galaxy in spectacular starships.
